Goaso GPRTU In Denmark For Study Tour

A four member team from the Goaso branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union of the TUC, has arrived in Copenhagen, Denmark for a two week study tour of the road transport sector.

The tour forms part of activities for a year long advocacy to save the private road transport industry.It is funded by BUSAC Fund.

In a pre-departure press briefing, the Executive Director of Network for Advocacy and Development Alternatives(NADA), who are service providers for the Goaso GPRTU,Mr Mohammed Doku, disclosed that the Danish government through the Danish Road Directorate(DRD), has taken much interest in the action and is supporting the team.

He said the DRD will host the team during the two week stay in Denmark.

Mr Doku said the team will learn about the safety situation in Denmark, how DRD works with road safety on the national road network and how accident registration is performed in Denmark.

He added that the team will be introduced to the existing regulations and guidelines for commercial transport in Denmark and also to regulations for vehicle inspection.

According to him, the team will again learn about the training of transport operators and drivers as trade organisation in Denmark.

Mr Doku hinted that the team will study the road safety enforcement strategies of the national Danish Police and will also be introduced to police vehicle operators control measures.

He explained that these among others, will place the team in a better position to dialogue all stakeholders in the transport industry to help them stem the spate of road accidents in Ghana and in the end save the private road transport business.

Other members of the team include messrs Yaw Thomas and Stephen Gyamfi, secretary and first trustee respectively of the Goaso GPRTU and Mr Sonny Davis Arthur, a representative of the Sunyani Polytechnic.
