Ghanaians in Wales form a union

The Ghana Union of Wales has organised a special get-together in the Welsh capital of Cardiff to rekindle the traditional Ghanaian communal living spirit among its members.

The Union formed in April 2005, is made up of Ghanaians living in Wales in the United Kingdom. It also has among its membership non-Ghanaians who are linked to Ghana through marriage, business or other reasons.

The President of the Union, Mr Frankie Asare-Donkoh, addressing members at the get-together urged Ghanaians living in foreign countries to be law-abiding so as to protect the name and image of Ghana.

He appealed to Ghanaians living in Wales to join the Union to help pull their resources in unity to seek the welfare of Ghanaians in that country and also mobilise all available resources to be sent home for Ghana?s development. Mr. Asare-Donkoh announced that the Union is preparing for its formal inauguration in July this year to coincide with Ghana?s Republic Day celebrations.

A member of the Union and one of the longest living Ghanaians in Wales, Mr. Kwesi Haizel, appealed to the members to promote the welfare and well-being of their children who are the best assets of Ghana.

The well-attended get-together offered both Ghanaians and non-Ghanaians the opportunity to taste several varieties of traditional Ghanaian foods and music. Source: Ghana Union of Wales
