Ghanaian based in Canada institutes scholarship scheme

Offuman (B/A), Feb. 19, GNA -- Ten students of Offuman Guakro Fah Senior Secondary School in the Techiman Municipality are to benefit from a scholarship scheme instituted by Mr. Charles Kwasi Gyan, a Ghanaian based in Canada.

Mr. Gangkuu Taer, Assistant Headmaster of the school disclosed this when Mr. Gyan led a six-member delegation from Canada and Hong Kong to the school to interact with the students and officials of the school. Mr. Taer said two students Master Desmond Asiedu and Miss Vida Boafoaa, both Senior Secondary one students had already benefited from the scheme, worth 190,000 cedis for each academic year Mr. Gyan who hails from the area told the Ghana News Agency that he instituted the scheme because he had noted that most of the pupils were brilliant but lacked support

He said he would provide 1.9 million cedis each academic year to ten students of the school to defray their school fees up to Senior Secondary three.

Mr. Gyan appealed to parents to ensure the education of their children, since it was the best legacy they could bequeath to them. Nana Akofo Asiedu Gyeaman II, paramount chief of the Offuman traditional area who is also the circuit supervisor of schools in the area commended Mr. Gyan's gesture and appealed to other Offuman citizens resident outside the community to emulate him.
