Ghanaian Community in New York Mourns Two

Alhaji Ahmed Iddrisu Babar, one of the dynamic and active leaders of the Ghanaian community in New York died suddenly in Medina, Saudi Arabia on Saturday December 28, 2007 during the pilgrimage.
"The Iron Man" as he was popularly known, was a leading figure in the Ghanaian community. He was one of the founding members of National Council of Ghanaian Associations (NCOGA). He held several Executive positions in this august body and assume the presidency of NCOGA from 1998 to 1999. He was also the immediate past Chairman of the NDC New York Chapter. Alhaji Babar was also a founding member of Yankasa Association and served two terms as its President.
Yankasa Association is a not of profit organization and it comprises of people of Islamic faith of the northern part of Ghana residing in the tri-state area (New York, New Jersey and Connecticut).
Alhaji Babar's dedication and commitment to the Ghanaian community earned him the respect and admiration of all his colleagues and anyone who came into contact with him.
He leaves behind a wife and five children. There will be a Memorial Service in his honor on Saturday January 12, 2008 at the Cocoa House in the Bronx from 2 PM to 7 PM.
On Monday December 31, 2007, yet another giant of the community died at the Montefiore Hospital after a short illness. Hassan Abdullah or Hassan Kennedy, as was affectionately called, was also an active community leader. He was a founding member of the Yankasa Association and one of the pioneers of the Video Recording business in the New York area.
These two giants will be sorely missed, and our sincere condolences go out to the families.
May their souls rest in eternal peace.
