Akyem Oda, Aug. 22, GNA 96 About 300 unemployed youth are being screened for Community Police under the Youth Employment Programme in the Birim South District in the Eastern Region.
Other programmes to be implemented alongside the community police are youth in agriculture, teaching, ward assistants, community sanitation assistants and Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) programmes.
Mr Frank Kwame Busumtwi, Birim South District Chief Executive addressing the participants at Akyem Oda on Tuesday reiterated Government's commitment to ensure the youth were gainfully employed. He said 93Government would ensure that youth employment programme becomes a reality and not a mirage.=94
Mr Busumtwi said resources for the programme to take off successfully in the area had been made available and was optimistic that problems of youth unemployment in the district would be solved. Police Chief Superintendent Ben Atadana, Akyem Oda Divisional Commander reminded the "recruits" that they were being employed to assist the police in detecting and combating crime.
He said they should therefore, not attempt to usurp operations of the police or engaged in activities that would cast a slur on the reputation of the Ghana Police Service.
Mr John Asiedu, Birim South District Youth Employment Co-ordinator, expressed appreciation to the government for the programme and urged those to be employed to work hard. 22 Aug. 06
