Dutch Businesses donate to Ghana

Transcheque (Chequepoint) & POFAM donate about 82 million cedis to charity.

Money Transfer company Transcheque (Chequepoint) has pledged a sponsorship of about 50 million cedis to Save Our Live Ghana, an orphanage at Manso Agoroyesum in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

The orphanage is the home to 33 orphans aged between 4 days and 17 years under the care of Miss Paulina Opei, a matron at Saint Martin Hospital. Housed in the 2 bedroom official residence of the matron, the orphans depend largely on the merge income of the matron and irregular donations from around the community.

The orphanage will receive a monthly €300, 00 allowances from Chequepoint.

The second beneficiary is the teenage retarded Kwaku Anyima of Hwenampori, a village near Bibiani in the Wiaso district of Western Region. Kwaku’s aged parents are crippled and beg for alms at a local market. None of his four siblings have ever set foot in a classroom.

Chequepoint’s €50, 00 monthly allowances will offer Kwaku a descent health care and a normal upkeep as every fortunate child deserves.

Both recipients were spotted by Sankofa Television, an African TV station based in The Netherlands’s during their recent tour of the country.

Chequepoint intensified its money transfer business to Ghana last year from all over Europe and is popular for its low rate commission and attractive exchange rates.

In a related development, a Ghanaian entrepreneur Alice Pokuaa of POFAM Tropical Import & Export in the Netherlands has donated various food items and provisions valued over €3000, 00 to Save Our Live Ghana. Alice who was deeply touched by the yet to be aired Sankofa’s documentary of the orphanage hoped the orphans will enjoy the gifts during the Christmas period.

The director of Sankofa TV, Geoffrey Osei Bonsu thanked the donors and offered to coordinate the release of the gifts to the recipients very soon.
