Date and venue set for Ghanafest 2005

Chicago, April 4 2005 (GHP) -- At their monthly general meeting yesterday, the Ghana National Council of metropolitan Chicago, GNC, set Saturday,July 30th 2005 to host Ghanafest, the most popular Ghanaian cultural festival abroad, at the historic Washington park, in Chicago.

In his address to the council, the GNC president, Mr. Reuben Hadzide stated that the theme for this years Ghanafest is ?Passing on the Ghanaian culture and heritage to our youth?. Mr. Hadzide fulfilled one of his numerous promises to the council when he presented a list of awards and the criteria for giving the awards to the central committee of the GNC.

Concluding his address to the central committee of the GNC, Mr. Hadzide said "Lest I forget, we encourage the central committee members to present financial statements from the Ghana National Council to their members. Whilst visiting some of the affiliate organizations and talking with members of the Ghanaian community, it strikes us cold that they are not aware of the financial transactions of the council. The council belongs to all the Affiliate organizations, without them there is no Ghana National Council and their members need to know exactly what goes on here, especially, how we spend their money!"

In another development, Mr. Sowah Obuadaben Botchway, was sworn-in as the new chairman of the Ghana National council. Mr. Botchway and his vice, Mr. Eddie Quartey, both represents the Ghana Chicago club on the GNC.
