Commonwealth Remembrance Day

In connection with activities marking ‘Remembrance Day’ which is celebrated each year on the eleventh day of the eleventh month, a wreath-laying ceremony was held at the Commonwealth War Cemetery in Belgrade, on Saturday, 11th November, 2006.

The event which was well-patronised by Commonwealth and Non-Commonwealth countries alike, as well as peace-seeking individuals and organisations from all walks of life in Belgrade, commenced at exactly 10:50hrs (C.E.T).

His Excellency, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe laid a wreath on behalf of the Government and people of Ghana. Other wreaths were laid by the Embassy of Australia, Cyprus, Great Britain, India, Sri Lanka, Poland and Canada which hosted the ceremony. Representatives of the Serbian government and the Mayor of Belgrade also laid wreaths in remembrance of the fallen war victims.

The brief but impressive ceremony came to a close at 11:15hrs, and was followed by a reception at the Embassy of Canada in Belgrade.
