Columbus District COP in 21 Days of Fasting and Prayer

The Columbus District of the Church of Pentecost begins a 21-day fasting and prayer experience from Monday, October 13 to Sunday, November 2, 2008.

The daily fasts, during which members will voluntarily go without food in order to focus on prayer and fellowship with God, will involve members from the Central, Eastside, Akron, and PIWC assemblies. In the course of the 21 days, there will be prayer meetings at the respective assembly locations during the weekdays for members working second and third shifts. From Mondays through Saturdays, there will be evening services from 7 pm to 9.30 pm at the respective assembly locations. On Sunday, November 2, a joint prayer service will be held at the Central Assembly at 1815 Woodland Avenue.

According to District Pastor Rev. Joseph Antwi, you can pray without fasting, and fast without prayer but it is when these two activities are combined and dedicated to God's glory that they reach their full effectiveness.

“Having a dedicated time of prayer and fasting is not a way of manipulating God into doing what you desire. Rather, it is simply forcing yourself to focus and rely on God for the strength, provision, and wisdom you need.”

The theme for the fast, taken from Zechariah 4:16, is “Not by might, nor by Power; but by My Spirit.”

Rev. Antwi emphasized that he wishes above all things that the body of Christ at large may prosper and be in good health even as our souls prosper but then there is a limit to what our wisdom, money, and abilities can accomplish.

“There comes a time in a person’s life where you ought to recognize this limitation and tap into the supernatural enablement of our heavenly father. There is a spiritual dimension to all the issues of life”.

The program will feature Overseer Nana Kobi from Cincinnati and Pastor Jimmy Markins from Ghana as guest speakers, as well as Elder Kwasi Mireku from Ghana and Elder Francis Agyei as guest singers.

The district pastor extends a special invitation to the entire Ghanaian community in and around Columbus to participate and share in the experience.
