Club UK is launched in the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Year

The year 2012 marks milestones in the annals of both Ghana and the United Kingdom. Ghanaians go to the polls to reinforce their democratic credentials while the UK marks international celebrations throughout 2012 for the 60th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II to the throne.

The London Club (Club UK) is a social organization for Diaspora Ghanaians from the United Kingdom, who are both in Ghana & the UK. The aims of the Club include the promotion of the well-being of members through regular contacts regardless of age, ethnic origin, ability, sex, belief or political affiliation recognising the value of our many differences.

The launch of the London Club (Club UK) takes place on Saturday 24th March at Alisa Hotel in Accra. The seven hour event, which spans 3 to 10pm, has a retinue of attractions including a four-course British and Ghanaian style feast, fashion show and live band.

The Special Guest of Honour is Ghana’s former High Commissioner to the Court of St. James, UK, Ambassador Isaac Osei. Other invited guests include Ambassadors K.B. Asante, J E A Aggrey-Orleans, Chris Kpodo (Deputy Foreign Minister), Kwabena Baah Duodu, as well as Mr. Kwadwo Mpiani (former Chief of Staff).

The Chairman of the Club, Kwame Asante, declares ... ‘the Club UK serves a useful network for Diaspora Ghanaians both in Ghana and UK’. Emphasising the charitable status of the Club, Mr. Asante further said ‘the net proceeds from the launch will go towards the establishment of the Club UK Educational Fund which will aim to assist the bright and needy in Ghana’. According to the Director of Protocol of the Club, Gladys Agyare, ‘all and sundry are welcome to Saturday’s event whether you have been to ..., aspiring to go or have never been to ... the UK’.

The Club serves as a first stop for Diaspora Ghanaians returning to Ghana for ‘business, pleasure or simply back to the roots’ for insights into some of the ‘Do’s and don’ts’ in Ghana. The formation of the Club further strengthens the historical ties between Ghana and the UK.
