Chicago Celebrates Ghana@ 51 with Elegance!

.....Ghana's Ambassador to the US may celebrate with Chicagoans this year!

Chicago, Illinois, Feb 18 2008, If you missed the historic and much talk about Ghana@50 celebrations in Chicago last year, take it cool, because you will have the opportunity to make it up this year ; the New Executives and the Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago (GNC), has vowed to make this year’s celebrations an unforgettable event.

The church of the Ghanaian Community of Chicago will kick off the elaborate celebrations by hosting an Interdenominational Church Service on Sunday, March 2 2008, starting at 1 P.M. prompt. The service is collaboration between the GNC and the Council of Ghanaian Churches here led by Reverend Dr. Kofi Noonoo.

A Townhall meeting will follow the Church service at the same venue to enable members of the community to interact and chit chat with their new leaders.

The President of the Ghana National Council, Mr. John Henry Assabill announced this on Sunday, February 17, when he visited and worshiped with the hosts of the service, The Church of the Ghanaian Community, at 5500 S. Woodlawn, Chicago Illinois. John Henry was introduced by the current Moderator of the GNC, who also a founding member and elder of the church and the community, Mr. Kwasi Yeboah. Preceding the introduction of John Henry, Mr. Yeboah acknowledged the presence of some of the past officers of the GNC and members of the church. The late Mr. Kwaku Lartey, former Secretary General and founding member of both the GNC and the Ghana Community church; Mr. Ernest Bugyei, Sergent –At-Arms from 2005 to 2007 of the GNC, Nana Owusu Bempah, former President of the GNC; and Reuben Hadzide, immediate past President of the Council, were introduced and recognized . Miss Berlinda Mckwartin, former Assistant Secretary and current Secretary of the GNC was missed out during the introduction.

This year’s dinner dance is slated at the elegant Westin Hotel, 6100 North River Road, Rosemont, Illinois, a week after the church service, on March 8 2008 from 7 P.M to 2 A.M. Tickets will cost 60 dollars per person and Parking is free . Your may purchase your tickets at the door. Activities include live traditional cultural performances by renowned artists in the Chicago area. Talented D.J Bonsu, will be there with the latest mixes of Funk, Hip Pop, Reggae, High Life and Old School Music to give revelers the outmost entertainment! Ghana's Ambassador to the USA,Dr. Kwame Bawuah-Edusei , is rumored will attend the celebrations in Chicago.The Ghana National Council officials have denied the rumor. Ghana web could not reach the Embassy for comment.

Proceeds from the event will support programs to serve needy children in Ghana. Ghanaweb and Ghana National Council cameramen will cover the event.
