Call for Commentary from Ghanaians Abroad

The Statesman newspaper in Ghana (www.thestatesmanonline.com) is calling for written commentary from non-resident Ghanaians. We want to read true stories about your experiences abroad, with details of:

• Why you chose to leave Ghana
• How you have been accepted (or rejected) in your destination country What have been the costs (financially, physically, personally, psychologically) of your journey?
• What have you gained for your experience abroad?
• What have been the most difficult challenges for you?
• What disappointments have you encountered?
• What have been your greatest successes or triumphs in your new place of residence?
• Where do you consider home; Ghana, your new residence, or both, or neither?
• What are your overall impressions of the country you now live in?
• What have been the costs and benefits to your family (immediate and extended), community, clan, village etc. of your journey?
• Do you plan to return and if so, when, and what will you do when you return to Ghana?
• Would you advise other Ghanaians to travel and work or study abroad?
• What advice would you give those Ghanaians who choose to live abroad?
• Any personal anecdotes that you think will interest Ghanaian readers.

Entries should be written in first-person and can take the form of a letter to a friend or loved one back home.

We will publish well-written entries of one thousand words or less in the Saturday edition of The Statesman as part of a running feature on the Ghanaian Diaspora.
