'Burger' Jailed For 14 years

A Ghanaian resident in Germany, who was arraigned before an Accra Regional Tribunal, for concealing cocaine in the shoes he was wearing, has been sentenced to 14 years? imprisonment.

The convict, Yahuza Shanunu, on March 12, 2005, at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), ready to board KLM flight No. K590 for Berlin, though Amsterdam, was nabbed by officials.

The accused person was pointed out by an eyewitness in the case, due to his suspicious movements, and demeanour, who alerted security officials at the Airport, who accosted him for a search, and following an intimate search on him, a substance, suspected to be cocaine, was found, hidden in his shoes.

Yahuza, after his arrest, then called his friend, Ali Mashood, on phone, who then after a lengthy chat, arrived with $4,000, and attempted to bribe Narcotic Control Board officer with it.

As a result, Ali Mashood was arrested along with Yahuza, and charged with attempting to bribe an officer, while Yahuza was charged with attempting to export narcotic drugs without licence, and possessing narcotic drugs.
