His Excellency Papa Owusu-Ankomah, on Friday 13th July 2018, presented his Letters of Credence as Ghana’s Ambassador to the Republic of Ireland.

The Letters accrediting to that country were received by His Excellency Michael Daniel Higgins, President of the Republic of Ireland at an impressive ceremony held at Áras an Uachtaráin, Dublin, the official residence and principal work place of the Irish President.

During a courtesy meeting immediately following the presentation of credentials, President Michael Daniel Higgins congratulated and welcomed HE Papa Owusu-Ankomah and assured him of the necessary support in his efforts to expand Ireland – Ghana bilateral relations.

On the occasion, Ambassador Owusu-Ankomah conveyed the greetings and best wishes from HE President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the personal well-being of President Higgins. The Ambassador acknowledged the cordial relations that exist between Ghana and Ireland and the similarities both countries share in the following:

• Rich culture and appreciation of folklore;
• Emigration – both countries have large numbers of their citizens in various countries

HE Papa Owusu-Ankomah assured the President of his resolve to work towards strengthening political and economic cooperation between Ireland and Ghana. The Ambassador also invited Irish businesses and companies to take advantage of the conducive business environment and political stability to invest in Ghana, particularly in the areas of banking and fund management, Agro-food processing, ICT, Aqua-culture development, Tourism, and Energy.

H.E. Owusu-Ankomah further acknowledged the role that Ireland had played in the religious and educational sectors of Ghana through the Catholic Church.

H.E. Mr. Papa Owusu-Ankomah, Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana was accompanied by
Mrs. Augustina Owusu-Ankomah, Ambassador’s Spouse and Mrs. Matilda Aku Alomatu Osei-Agyeman, Minister/Head of Chancery.

Their Excellencies, the Ambassadors of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Republic of Seychelles and the Kingdom of Cambodia also presented their Letters of Credence to the President at Áras an Uachtaráin.



Minister Ciarán Cannon T.D, Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade with special responsibility for the Diaspora and International Development represented the Government at the ceremony.

The following officials were also present: Mr. Conor Ó Raghallaigh, Deputy Secretary General to the President; Col. Liam Condon, Aide-de-Camp to the President; Mr. John Conlan, Assistant Secretary – Finance and Procurement Division in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade; Mr. Feilim McLaughlin, Mr. Joe Brennan, Ms. Claire Buckley and Mr. Patrick O’Reilly, Protocol, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The Ambassadors were accompanied to and from Áras an Uachtaráin by an Escort of Honour consisting of a motorcycle detachment drawn from the 2 Cavalry Squadron, Cathal Brugha Barracks, Dublin, under the command of Second Lieutenant Jason Nugent.

A Guard of Honour was provided at Áras an Uachtaráin by the 6 Infantry Battalion, Custume Barracks, Athlone under the command of Lieutenant Michael Fogarty.
