Amakye Dede Entertains Ghana troops In Freetown

Abrantea Amakye Dede, the highlife maestro made Ghana's 45th Republic Day, July 1 in Sierra Leone a memorable one when he entertained Ghanaian troops serving with the United Nations Mission in the country.

Amakye Dede who was in Sierra Leone at the invitation of the Ghana High Commission in Freetown thrilled the soldiers and a section of the Ghanain community in Sierra Leone with a vintage performance taking them through both his old and new songs backed by Super Ranchies of Ghana's Sixth Battalion of Tamale.

The dance organised to round off the Medals day celebration of Ghanbatt 11, took place at Bo, Sierra Leonean's second largest city.

Present at the dance were Ghana's High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, H.E. Kabral Blay-Amihere, Honourable William Ofori Boafo, Deputy Minister of Defence,who led the Medals Day Delegation, Brigardier General GLA Ayi-Bonte, Director of Joint Operations of the Ghana Armed Forces and the Deputy Force Commander of UNAMSIL, Brigardier General Kwabena Opoku.

The soldiers who had been on peacekeeping operations in Sierra Leone for the last three months, literally invaded the dance floor when Amakye Dede began his show with his popular tune IRON BOY and ended with his latest hit-KROKRO ME.

In brief remarks to the soldiers during the show, Amakye Dede praised the soldiers for their professionalism and contribution to peace in Sierra Leone and urged the soldiers to promote peace in Ghana on their return.

The Commanding Officer of Ghanbatt 11, Lt. Colonel William Omane Agyekum thanked Amakye Dede for joining them in the celebration of their Medals Day and July 1.

He also thanked H.E. Blay-Amihere for inviting Amakye Dede.

Hon. Ofori Boafo was full of praise for the contribution of Ghanaian troops to the peace process in Sierra Leone and asked them to continue to worthy ambassadors of Ghana during their remaining days in Sierra Leone.

Earlier, the Commanding Officer of the Ghanaian battalion, Lt. Colonel William Omane Agyekum and his troops were honoured with United Nations Medals for their peacekeeping role by the Special Representative of the Secretary General, Ambassador Daudi Mwakawago.
