Don't give mahogany bitters a bad name. Instead, find the chemical composition of the drink that killed the victims.

If the drink is poisonous as a result of the composition, that is what we want to know.

Mahogany bitters is derived from the back of the Mahogany tree , however the mahogany is a twin tree as one is edible the other is poisonous. They looked alike , very similar in everything except the fruit that comes with it. One's fruit round whiles the other is oblong in shape and that marks the difference. But now i can not figure out or remember which of the two is not edible therefore poisonous. but experienced herbalist knows the difference. One needs to be careful when dealing in mahogany for the tree is confusing, don't go plucking when it is not your trade, for the poisonous one would confuse you.
