This news report is very confusing. The writer seemed to have every fact of the case in details. I don't really know if the journalist is aware of the fact that since he was not present and privy to the incidents, he or she should tell us who say what and let the public draw its own conclusions about the case.

NDC and Police disrespect for Law is at its peak. Have you forgotten what Wayongo said in the North during the By Election. He said people should take the law into their hand when necessary

If the facts gleaned from the Article are truthful, then Atta Akyea is the one who must be summoned by the Parliament for supporting a lawless mob for, ostensibly, political reasons.
No matter what the breach of Taboo by the Fetish Priest was, no one, not even the President has the power to summarily declare him banned from his hometown. More, the misguided, superstitious youthful mob had no right to set the Priest's house on fire, even after the Priest fire a gun to warn them off.
The Mob had rushed to his house to forcibly remove him to appear before that village Chief. The Fetish Priest was in his Constitutional right to defend his life and property by firing the shots, and wisely not aiming at anybody but just to scare the crowd away.
The Priest then did the wiser thing by fleeing to report the matter to the Police. He did not take his gun to hunt down those who had burnt his house down and threatened his life.
So, how does Atta Akyea come up with the Police bias for the complainant? And if the Police had shown any such bias, it was a reasonable bias to defend the attacked person. The Police had to make the arrest to round up all who could possibly be part of the criminal behavior of rushing to the Priest's house to forcibly remove him to appear before the Chief, and eventually set the house on fire. The arrest is necessary to control the mob. It is subsequent Court adjudication of the case that would ultimately decide who was guilty or innocent. But for now, the Police had no choice but act to bring order to the town.
I see Atta Akyea's intrusion as only for siding with the Youths from whom he envisages a larger election support. So, now, he would use the Police intervention against the incumbent Government and NDC to boost his own parochial Political interests. That would not instill discipline and honest adherence to Justice by all, including the Chief of the Town and his sub-chiefs and the Queen-mother.
It is a shame that Atta Akyea would turn an incident like this into a political issue, and fail to support the Police to bring Peace in the area. He could immediately admonish the Youths to back off and let the Police to do their work and promise the Youth to help them with an legal assistance to proof their innocence, if they were.
But to show up there as the MP of the area, supposedly representing all the folks in the area and immediately take sides and blame the Police is most unproductive and betraying the Law Enforcement Agencies in the area.
Capitalizing upon such feuds to gain cheap political popularity is a dangerous and unethical behavior by any Politician. And Atta Akyea must re-examine his attitude and the Parliament must look into his behavior for indirectly fanning the flames in that conflict.
Long Live Ghana!!!
