Estate developer commits suicide

A 50-year-old estate developer has committed suicide at Pobiman, near Amasaman.

The deceased, identified as Robert Akabah, allegedly jumped into a deep well in his house around 1:10am on Sunday.

An eyewitness revealed that the suspect, who recently informed the wife about his intention to commit suicide, actually carried out the act after dawn prayers on that fateful day.

The eyewitness told DAILY GUIDE that when the deceased threatened to commit suicide, the wife, (name withheld), immediately consulted pastors of their church to advise the deceased.

The devastated woman, who thought the husband had recovered, prayed for him every dawn until last Sunday when he committed the act.

At about 1:00am on Sunday, Robert and his wife came out of their room to urinate after hours of praying and when the deceased realised that the wife had entered the bathroom to urinate, he jumped into the well where they draw water from.

“After several attempts to rescue him failed, neighbours called the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) for help but he was already dead when they brought him out of the well,” the eyewitness said.

The Amasaman Police personnel were called to the scene to convey the body to the Police Hospital morgue.

Superintendent Kwodwo Asante, the Amasaman District Police Commander, confirmed the story and added that the body had been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for autopsy.

According to Superintendent Asante, investigations are currently ongoing.

Last week, a 23-year-old former student of Kukurantumi Technical Institute committed suicide by hanging.

The deceased, identified as Samuel Nyarko, was found hanging dead on a tree near the Mallam Market.
