The police in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi, have arrested 150 suspected armed robbers, including eight women.
The suspects who were arrested in swoops,accordig to the police, have been terrorizing residents in the metropolis.
Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCOP Augustine Gyenin told journalists at a briefing in Kumasi on March 20, 2013 that the swoops were conducted in areas like Adukrom near the Kumasi Airport, Suame, Asafo, Affordable, amongst others.
He said the Police retrieved from the suspects “39 assorted passports, 16 rubber stamps, three locally-manufactured pistols, three live ammunitions, three cartridges, nine pairs of ladies slippers, three live ammunitions, 97 mobile phones, six machetes, one Ipad, four pairs of scissors, six machetes, three digital cameras, one Del Laptop, one fake dollar note, two pen drives, three digital cameras and amount of GHS3860".
DCOP Gyenin said the Police also saw a shrine in what he described as the “den” of the robbers where they apparently went to fortify themselves spiritually before embarking on any robbery operation.
