Enoch Afoakwa, lawyer for detained nurse, Salomey Baffoe, has warned that the court and government could be held accountable if his client’s health deteriorates while in custody.

Afoakwa said Baffoe has repeatedly complained of feeling unwell since her detention and expressed concern about her continued stay in the cell without what he considers adequate access to medical care.

“So, if anything happens to her, we would hold the court and the government accountable,” he said.

According to a report by adomonline.com on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, the lawyer said Baffoe was visibly unwell when she appeared in court and complained of dizziness.

He said the court had to order that a swivel chair be provided for her during the proceedings because of her condition.

Afoakwa also complained about his limited access to his client, explaining that he can only communicate with her from the counter because she remains in the cell.

“I still don’t have proper access to her because she is in cell and I can only talk to her from the counter,” he stated.

The lawyer said he expected the court to consider Baffoe’s health when issuing the remand order, particularly because she had pleaded not guilty to the charge against her.

“The law states that someone is innocent until proven guilty. So, once she has pleaded not guilty and is not feeling well, we were expecting that the court, during the orders for the remand, would have given consequential orders for her to seek medical care,” he indicated.

Baffoe is facing a charge of abetment of crime, to wit, publication of false news, in connection with an ongoing police investigation.

She has pleaded not guilty to the charge after being remanded by the Adentan Circuit Court on Friday September 18 for two weeks.

The Police allege that Baffoe assisted Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, whom they identify as the operator of the “Ghana Jollof” TikTok account and who is believed to be in the United Kingdom, to disseminate videos and recruit others to redistribute the content.

According to the Police, forensic examination of Baffoe’s phone, including audio and video files, together with mobile money records, also uncovered alleged financial links between her and Kodua.

Baffoe is expected to return to the Adentan Circuit Court on September 28, 2026, as the case proceeds.

The High Court’s decision on the bail application will determine whether she will remain in custody pending further proceedings or be released on bail.
