Tension reportedly erupted at a church in Kumawu in the Ashanti Region after a suspected cannabis (weed) seller allegedly ran into the premises to evade arrest by the Ghana Police Service.

According to a report by Dunkwa TV, accompanied by video footage, an informant allegedly followed the suspect into the church, sparking chaos during the service. Police officers reportedly intervened and disrupted the church service, causing a confrontation between congregants and the officers.

In the video, some church members expressed disappointment with the police over what they described as unlawful entry and misconduct inside the church.

“You are enforcing the law but you don’t know the law. In the laws of Ghana, which law allows a police officer to forcefully arrest someone in a church by holding the person and pressing the person’s neck?” one church member questioned.

They accused the officers of disregarding the law and taking matters into their own hands by allegedly pressing the suspect’s neck inside the church despite attempts by members to intervene.

“When he came, we told him to take his time but he said no. Instead, he would rather press his neck and kill him. Come and see what they were doing in the church,” another member alleged.

“The same police officers, if something happens to this guy, will tell us that the church has killed him,” another congregant said.

“You police officers came while we were praising God and by force you wanted to arrest the person and disrupt church activities. Do you think we should allow you to do that?” another church member asked.
