The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested six suspects believed to be involved in a motorbike theft syndicate and recovered 17 stolen motorbikes from different locations within the region.

According to the Police, the operation followed a report made on July 11, 2026, by a victim whose black Luojia motorbike, with registration number M-21-UW 3512, was stolen from the Ghana National Fire Service premises in Jirapa.

In a statement dated July 23, 2026, the Command said the victim shared details of the stolen motorbike with friends and the Police, leading to intelligence that helped officers track down one of the suspects.

“Acting swiftly on intelligence, police officers arrested Nasiru Muftawu at Loho in possession of the stolen motorbike,” the statement said.

The Police added that during interrogation, the suspect admitted to stealing the motorbike and was subsequently taken into custody to assist with investigations.

Further investigations led to the arrest of three other suspects identified as Basit Muftawu alias Posey, 19; Issahaku Maruf alias Katel, 22; and Mohammed Ali alias Geewaa, 18.

The Command said additional exhibits connected to the thefts were also recovered from Rashid Kankan, 20; Mutala Rashad, 20; and Haruna Hamdan alias DJ, 20.

The Police stated that the continued investigations resulted in the recovery of 16 more stolen motorbikes from UBIDS, Chakor and Glamon, all within the Wa Municipality.

“The sustained investigations subsequently led to the recovery of sixteen (16) more motorbikes stolen from UBIDS, Chakor, and Glamon, all within the Wa Municipality,” the statement noted.

The suspects have since appeared before the Wa Circuit Court and have been remanded in Police custody. They are expected to reappear on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

The Upper West Regional Police Command has appealed to individuals who have lost their motorbikes to visit the Wa District Police Headquarters with valid ownership documents to identify and retrieve their properties.

“The Command wishes to assure the public of its unwavering commitment to combating crime and dismantling criminal networks,” the statement said.

It further urged residents to continue providing credible information to support policing efforts and help curb criminal activities in the region.
