Police officers in Tema have rejected a GH¢150,000 bribe allegedly offered to secure the release of a truck loaded with suspected narcotic substances.

The truck was intercepted at Toflokpo near Sege after police found it carrying more than 3,000 compressed slabs of suspected narcotic materials.

The suspect, Victor Ayegbe, who allegedly offered the money to the police, has since been granted bail pending trial.

Briefing the media during a press conference on recent anti-crime operations in the region, Tema Regional Police Commander DCOP Eric Asamoah Asiedu said the truck was intercepted on February 15, 2026, with the driver and alleged owner fleeing the scene.

“On 15 February 2026, Police intercepted a Blue Tipper Truck GN-993-14 at Toflokpo, near Sege, loaded with sacks of suspected narcotic plant materials. The driver and alleged owner, Isaac, fled,” he said.

He said Victor Ayegbe later reported to the Regional CID office and allegedly offered GH¢150,000 to have the truck and its contents released.

“On 16 February 2026, Victor Ayegbe reported to the Regional CID and allegedly offered GH¢150,000 to secure release of the truck and content. He was immediately arrested,” he continued.

DCOP Asiedu added that Police investigations later confirmed the quantity of suspected narcotic substances found in the truck.

“On 17 February 2026, an inventory confirmed 3,009 compressed slabs of suspected narcotic materials. The truck and exhibit remain in police custody,” he indicated.

The suspect was arraigned before the Ashaiman Circuit Court on February 18, 2026, and was remanded to reappear on March 4, 2026.

DCOP Asiedu said the case is still before the court, with forensic analysis of the exhibit completed and efforts ongoing to arrest the driver and alleged owner of the truck.

He added that the suspect is currently on bail, with the case adjourned to November 3, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
