A 40-year-old woman, Theresa Sungbung, has been remanded into police custody by the Damongo Circuit Court after she was arrested for allegedly attempting to bribe police officers with GH¢300,000.

According to a report by adomonline.com on July 20, 2026, the accused was arrested on July 13, 2026, at the Banda-Nkwanta Police Checkpoint after police intercepted 84 parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp in her possession.

"The police are working to arrest other persons believed to be connected to the case," the Bole District Police Commander, ASP Mahadi Mensah, said, indicating that investigations are ongoing to apprehend additional suspects.

The report said the accused told investigators she was transporting the suspected narcotics to Signye, an illegal mining site in the Bole District, before proceeding to the Upper West Region to deliver another consignment.

She was subsequently arraigned before the Damongo Circuit Court, presided over by Judge Livingston Lartey Yao Ameevor, who remanded her into police custody.

She is expected to reappear before the court on July 28, 2026.

ASP Mensah also urged commercial drivers to exercise caution over the passengers they transport, and the goods loaded onto their vehicles to avoid unknowingly becoming involved in criminal activities.
