The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested three persons in connection with the attempted importation of about five million tablets of tramadol valued at an estimated GH¢100 million on the street market.

According to a post shared on its official Facebook page on July 17, 2026, the suspects were arrested during an intelligence-led operation at the Accra International Airport.

"The suspects were apprehended during an intelligence-led operation at Accra International Airport in Accra after officials intercepted a shipment believed to contain the illicit pharmaceutical drugs", the post stated.

According to the Commission, the operation forms part of efforts to clamp down on drug trafficking.

"The operation forms part of NACOC’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and protect public health and national security", the post stated.

NACOC said its preliminary investigations indicate that the consignment was intended for distribution in Ghana and possibly other countries within the sub-region.

It further noted that," Investigators suspect the seizure may be linked to a broader drug trafficking network and are working to identify other persons connected to the operation".

NACOC noted that the three suspects will be arraigned before court after the conclusion of investigations, in line with the country's narcotics laws.

The recovered tramadol tablets have been secured as evidence, while forensic analysis and documentary examinations are ongoing to support further investigations.

NACOC further reiterated its commitment to dismantling drug trafficking syndicates and ensuring that persons involved face the full force of the law.

It urged members of the public to remain vigilant and assist law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious activities.
