The Akyem Abomosu Police Command has arrested nine suspects, including three Nigerian women and six Ghanaian men, for allegedly engaging in narcotics trafficking, Indian hemp trading and prostitution in the Atiwa West District of the Eastern Region.

According to a report by 3news.com on July 16, 2026, the arrests were made during a special operation led by the Formed Police Unit (FPU) Commander, ASP Seth Ehuren.

Speaking on the operation, Nana Kofi Agyei said the exercise forms part of ongoing efforts by the Atiwa District Police to tackle prostitution, narcotics trafficking and other social vices in the area.

"The Atiwa District Police operation forms part of ongoing efforts to curb prostitution and other related social vices in the area. The police remain committed to upholding their integrity and intensifying efforts against narcotics drug trafficking syndicates in the area," he said.

He noted that the operation targeted locations in the Akyem Abomosu community identified by police as hotspots for narcotics-related activities and prostitution.

During the exercise, officers retrieved items believed to be connected to the alleged Indian hemp trade.

The suspects are expected to be arraigned before the Osino Magistrate Court on Friday, July 17, 2026, to face prosecution.
