The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with the alleged murder of Abdul Jabal Suleman at Abompe New Site, a suburb of Obuasi.

According to the police, the suspect, identified as Seidu Masawudu, alias Marshall was arrested near Bolgatanga.

Addressing the media on July 15, 2026, the Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, said the suspect was arrested during an intelligence-led operation where he had allegedly gone into hiding.

The operation also led to the arrest of his 22-year-old girlfriend.

"Seidu Masawudu was on the wanted list of the Ghana Police in connection with the murder of Abdul Jabal Suleman on July 9, 2026", he stated.

DCOP Hammond Nyaaba said the police received a distress call on July 9, 2026, at about 2:20 am reporting that a group of young men, allegedly led by Masuludu and armed with firearms and cutlasses, had attacked Suleiman.

A police team was immediately dispatched to the scene, but the suspects had fled before officers arrived.

"Upon receipt of the complaints, the police immediately dispatched a team of operation men to the scene of crime, but the suspects had bolted. The police operation team proceeded to Anglogold Ashanti Hospital, where the victim had been rushed for medical attention, but he was confirmed dead", he said,

Acting on the intelligence, the Upper East Regional Police Command mounted an operation and arrested the suspect along with his girlfriend at the hideout.

"A thorough investigation commenced immediately, which led to the police stumbling upon a piece of intelligence that the ringleader, Marshall, had taken refuge at Bongo near Bolgatanga", DCOP Hammond Nyaaba stated.

During interrogation, police said the suspect allegedly admitted to killing of Suleman and also named several alleged accomplices.

""Subsequently, on Saturday July 9,2026, the Ashanti Regional Police Command mounted an operation in the surplus hideout and arrested him together with his 22-year-old girlfriend. During interrogation, Marshall admitted to having murdered Suleiman and mentioned his accomplices", he added.

According to the suspect, the murder was the result of a gang rivalry

Police say efforts are underway to arrest the remaining suspects as investigations continue.
