The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that a police inspector stationed in the Ashanti Region is under investigation over allegations of defilement and incest.
In a press release issued by the Ashanti North Regional Police Command on May 9, 2026, the officer was identified as Inspector Desmond Owusu Afriyie, who is stationed at the Mamponteng District in the Ashanti Region.
According to the statement, an alleged defilement and incest case involving Inspector Afriyie is currently under active investigation by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) at Agona District.

Police said the complaint was lodged on November 4, 2025, by Charlotte Samaa of Koforidua in the Eastern Region on behalf of her 14-year-old daughter.
The statement alleged that the victim had been sexually abused by her biological father.
Following the report, the victim was referred to a government health facility for medical examination to assist with investigations.
Police further disclosed that on February 20, 2026, the inspector reported to the Agona DOVVSU, where he was arrested and cautioned.
According to the release, the suspect denied the allegations and was subsequently granted enquiry bail with instructions to report periodically.
The Police Service also confirmed that the officer has been interdicted pending the outcome of investigations.
“The Inspector is currently being interdicted to pave the way for further investigations,” the statement said.
The Ashanti North Regional Police Command assured the public of its commitment to conducting a thorough investigation and said updates would be provided as the case progresses.
