A 24-year-old auto rickshaw (Pragya) rider, Bernard Kyere, has allegedly been shot dead by unknown assailants at Sofokyere, a suburb of Berekum in the Bono Region.

According to an Adom Online report on September 14, 2025, the incident occurred between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. on Saturday, leaving the community in shock.

Nana Yusuf Bakari, Chairman of the Auto Rickshaw Riders at the Biadan Station, said he rushed to the scene with police officers to confirm the incident.

He explained that the victim had been shot in the head and left lifeless in his tricycle.

Bakari added that this is the third time such an attack has occurred in the area and warned that Pragya riders may suspend operations in Sofokyere, especially at night, if the situation continues.

“This is the third time this is happening in the area. We will suspend operations in Sofokyere, especially at night, if the situation persists,” he stated.

The victim’s father, Seth Kyere, expressed shock at his son’s death, recounting that Bernard was at home on Friday evening but left around 8 p.m. after receiving a phone call.

He went to bed believing his son was on his usual night rounds, only to be informed at dawn that Bernard had been killed.

He called on security agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Police have deposited the body at the Holy Family Catholic Hospital morgue, and investigations are ongoing.
