Chief Executive Officer of Zonda Tec Ghana, Yang Yang, has expressed satisfaction with the impact of Ghana’s vehicle assembly policy, saying it has contributed to the growing acceptance of Chinese automobile brands in the country.

According to her, government support for local vehicle assembly has helped reshape public perception, boost consumer confidence and increase demand for locally assembled vehicles.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Friday, July 31, 2026, Yang said the introduction of the policy created an opportunity for the company to begin assembling its vehicles in Ghana.

“In 2023, 2024, there was an auto policy. So we got some leverage. And then we assembled the vehicles in Ghana,” she said.

She explained that local assembly had strengthened trust in the company’s products, with many consumers now regarding its vehicles as Ghanaian-made.

“So Ghanaians also feel that this is the Ghana brand. They started patronising GWM,” Madam Yang stated.

Yang further disclosed that the company spent two years studying the Ghanaian market before launching its operations and found that about 80% to 85% of vehicles on the country’s roads were used imports.

She said her personal experience with second-hand vehicles convinced her of the need to provide Ghanaians with reliable brand-new alternatives.

“When I started my business, I also bought home-used vehicles. Within that one year, it was really like hell to me. So I made this to myself. If I’m capable of doing the auto business, I will start a new business,” she recounted.

She acknowledged that introducing Chinese vehicle brands into a market dominated by Japanese, German and Korean manufacturers was not an easy task.

According to her, the company remained determined despite a slow start and adopted customer-friendly measures to build confidence in its products.

“When I started, for the first year, it didn’t move fast. But I didn’t give up,” she said.

Yang revealed that the company allowed some customers to test-drive its vehicles before making payment, a strategy she believes helped convince buyers of the quality and reliability of the cars.
