Insurance policy cancellation: Aggrieved personnel in dilemma over CHRAJ petition

Convener of a group calling itself the Concerned National Service Personnel Association of Ghana, Agbodo Williams has welcomed the move by the National Service Scheme(NSS) cancelling the mandatory GHC 15 deduction from the allowances of all National Service Personnel (NSP) across the country as contribution to an insurance policy package.

He, however, failed to state if the group will back down on their petition to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice(CHRAJ) over the policy despite the reversal by management.

“Now that they have come into terms with our arguments, what we can say is that we are happy that they are now thinking alike with us. We’ll think about our petition as the next course of action,” he told Accra-based Citi FM.

The insurance policy for national service personnel has been made optional for interested national service personnel who wish to sign onto the policy.

The decision was taken at an emergency Executive Council Meeting of the National Service Personnel Association(NASPA) held in Accra today, after the broad consultation with major stakeholders on the policy, and how best it would serve the interest of national service personnel.

Management has therefore decided to suspend the mandatory monthly deductions of GHC15.00 from personnel allowances.

A statement signed by Management urged all national service personnel to remain calm as their concerns regarding the insurance policy are being addressed.
