I very much respect the decision or stand of Paintsil. However, his basic or main reason does not hold water or strength. Paintsil being a sports personality, and a good one for that matter, the LA Galaxy management could or should have easily collaborated with the USCIS (the immigration agency in the United States) to provide what's called "Waiver" to enable Paintsil to honor his service to his nation and then return legally back into the United States to continue his contract negotiations. There is always a window of consideration when matters of import to the United States are on the table.
Paintsil had to say 'something' to the people of Ghana. And that's what he exactly did so that he does not burn the bridge with the national team and Ghana.

There is no "waiver". His issue is that his P-1 visa that he used to enter has expired so although he is in P-1 status, if he leaves then he has to go back Accra and get a new visa. The time consumption would be too much. ...
