In the conscious effort to help curb the spread of the Coronavirus, UDS pharmacy students together with their HODs and some TAs produced about 1200 bottles of 250ml alcohol-based hand sanitizers.

The preparation was made under strict hygienic conditions.

The process

Accurately weighed carbomer was dissolved in water and stirred to form a uniform mixture.

This slightly acidic mixture was adjusted to a pH of 8.6 and allowed to stand for 48 hours.

A gel was produced and to this gel, alcohol was added and stirred to form a uniform mixture-the baseline sanitizer.

Glycerine and fragrance were added and thoroughly mixed.

This uniform mixture (product) was bottled after pH determination.

This, they said, is a small way to help combat the spread of the deadly virus.

They further said they’re still working very hard and producing more to add up to what has already been made.

When all is set, the plan is to have them sold at a very affordable price of GHC10.00 to the general public.
