University of Ghana Head of Halls, Dr. Wiafe-Akenten Brenya says that acute shortage of water supply on the campus of the University is mainly from the Ghana Water Company Limited.

He says that GWCL is currently rationing its water, thus, the prevailing situation on the University campus.

Water supply to the University of Ghana has been unstable since the start of February.

Across the various halls of residence, long queues are formed by students to take turns to get water from the reservoirs in the hall.

Speaking to UniversNews, Dr. Wiafe-Akenten Brenya has advised residents to use the water available to them judiciously.

He has also charged hall authorities to make special arrangements for water supply if they run out.

“The feedback we got was that the Ghana Water Company is rationing water in Legon and its environs. So what it means is that, as and when they give us water, we will have to store. But if we run out, then the halls will have to make arrangements for alternative water supply,” Dr. Wiafe-Akenten Brenya said.

As to how long the situation will last, Dr. Wiafe-Akenten Brenya says that it was only dependent on the Ghana Water Company Limited.

“For now, we will have to depend on the Ghana Water Company, however the rationing of water is till further notice,” he added

Meanwhile, some students who have interacted with UniversNews over the matter said the issue is frustrating.
