Fire destroys properties at Adenta SSNIT Flats

Properties in a room on the top floor of block 41 at the Adenta SSNIT Flats, have been lost in a fire outbreak that happened at 9:30 this morning.

Even though no injury was recorded in the incident, all items, as well as the roofing on the apartment, were burnt beyond salvage.

According to Mr James Annan, the affected person, the cause of the fire that burnt one room of his two-bedroom apartment was caused by an electrical fault.

“About 9:30 am we heard a spark, I was sitting here (in the hall) then somebody called from down that the place is burning whilst we were here. We didn’t know the place was burning.”

Mr Annan giving further accounts of the fire outbreak to Ghanaweb.com said, following the discovery of the fire the floor was immediately evacuated whilst a fire extinguisher was brought in by a neighbour to help put out the fire.

He said attempts to put out the fire which was gaining momentum with an extinguisher failed. This he said caused them to seek the intervention of the Fire Service whose prompt efforts were able to douse the inferno and kept it from spreading to other rooms.

However, the intervention of the firefighters could not help save properties in the room which included appliances and pastries which had been prepared by his wife, who is a caterer.

Mr Annan, a pensioner whilst expressing gratitude for the absence of any injury in the incident, appealed to the general public to support him fix the roof of the room, which he said needed to be fixed as soon as possible to prevent rain from destroying properties in other rooms that were spared from the blaze.

“Looking at the state of damage in this room, everything has been lost. Immediately what I would want is to replace the roofing, then I would manage to gradually pick up. So if anybody can help I would be grateful. If I was still working then maybe I could take a loan and manage it.”

As at the time Ghanaweb got to the place, personnels from the Ghana Fire Service had left after putting off the fire.
