The Ghana Police service do not need helicopters. They are out of date. Even in serious war situations, helicopters have become $200,000 sitting ducks which can be brought down with just one single $5 bullet of a high-powered rifle. Besides, in a situation such as that which we find ourselves in in Ghana, the option of helicopters as a security vehicle is not cost-efficient.

A much much better option is what the NDC is planning to do. This is to acquire a fleet of surveillance and armed attack drones that can more effectively deal with and control conflict situations on the ground.

The cost of three helicopters will equip the entire country with sufficient numbers of drones plus back-up accessories and training.
