Yacouba denies reports of Asante Kotoko exit

Asante Kotoko striker Sogne Yacouba has denied reports that he is on the verge of leaving the club ahead of the second round of Ghana Premier League season.

The youngster was the toast of fans before the break after scoring two match winners to keep the former champions' chances of winning the title alive.

Yacouba has been absent from the club's training sessions since June, raising concerns about his future.

The topflight is currently on suspension following government’s intervention in the wake of a documentary that exposed corrupt practices involving some members of Ghana FA and referees.

“It's never true that I've decided to quit Asante Kotoko,” Yacouba told Light FM.

"I will be in Ghana on Wednesday to start training with my teammates, so the reports circulating that I will not play for Kotoko again are not true.

"I don’t know where the news is coming from but all that I can say is that the supporters must treat it with the contempt it deserves.

“It's also not true that Kotoko maltreated me when I was in Ghana. I’m happy at Kotoko and I don't think I have any issues with the coach, teammates or management members. I'm ready to work hard when the league resumes,” he added.

According to Goal's sources, Fifa will set up a normalisation committee to take charge of the day-to-day football activities, with the league likely to return in August.
