NDC should never allow Mahama to lead them as flagbearer - Odike

Founder and leader of United Progressive Party (UPP), Mr. Akwasi Addai Odike has counselled delegates of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) not to give former President John Dramani Mahama another opportunity to lead the party at any general election.

According to him, any move by the largest opposition party to allow the latter to lead them will spell doom for them especially in the 2020 polls and subsequent elections.

“My advice to NDC is that, they should not give Mahama the chance if they really mean political power. … Ghanaians are not ready for him”, the UPP 2016 flagbearer advised.

“Mahama should step aside for the sake of the party. …Even if it with a new person and NDC does not win the 2020 polls, that one will make their party little attractive”, Mr. Akwasi Addai observed.

The Center for Democratic Development (CDD)’s latest Afrobarometer report has revealed that a relatively large number of Ghanaians trust the New Patriotic Party (NPP) compared to the opposition party.

The 7th round of the survey which among other things sought to seek the opinions of Ghanaians as far as their confidence in some state institutions and political parties is concerned revealed that 33% of Ghanaians trust the ruling NPP government ‘a lot’ as compared to the 14% who don’t, 28% also indicated that they ‘somewhat’ trust the NPP.

The report also had 49% of respondents pledging their support for the NPP as against the 22% for the opposition National Democratic Congress.

Speaking to the report on Kumasi-based Nhyira FM morning show, Mr. Akwasi Addai Odike believes though, all is not well under Akufo-Addo government but everything points that Ghanaians are not ready for Mr. John Mahama.

“I will not pretend the economic condition under Akufo-Addo is good. .. but what I see is that there is hope; things will be better”, the businessman cum politician said.
