Judges, magistrates strike looms

An imminent nationwide strike of Judges and Magistrates has forced the adjournment of the case involving the Kwabenya cell breakers to Monday, 9 April.

According to sources close to the association, the adjournment of the case was due to an emergency meeting of which the presiding judge of the cell-break case, Justice Aboagye Tandoh, is a secretary and had to be present.

The leadership of judges and magistrates have been meeting over unpaid allowances due them since 2013.

The situation has infuriated lawyers for the accused persons who have expressed their reservations about the frequent adjournments.

Mr Owiredu Donkor, counsel for the 4th accused person, Nancy Dentaa, is not happy with the situation and complained that the liberty of his client has been curtailed. He wondered why the court has since refused to grant his client bail.

Speaking to Class News’ court correspondent Ibrahim Obeng-Mensah, he said he and the other lawyers of the accused persons are considering filing a bail application at the High Court since the circuit court is delaying in hearing the matter.
