Over seven thousand posted nurses who have been unpaid since January, have threatened to embark on a three-day demonstration to press the government to settle their outstanding arrears.
According to a representative of the nurses, the decision stems from the government’s failure to heed their September 2025 ultimatum.
“We had a press conference on August 18, and we gave the government an ultimatum that if we don’t hear anything from them by September, they would hear from us. We are planning a three-day demonstration, to be precise, from the 23rd to the 25th of this month, in two phases: Northern Region in Tamale and the Southern Zone at the Ministry of Health here in Accra,” Stephen Kwadwo Takyiah, a spokesperson for the group, told JoyNews on Monday, September 8, 2025.

He added that the group plans to abandon their posts for the three days and may likely remain off work until their issues are resolved.
“For the three days, yes, all of us will abandon our posts. We will serve a letter to the ministry in the form of a petition, then to the finance ministry. But since the health ministry is our employer, we will be at the health ministry until our pleas are heard and our situation resolved. If not, it will be difficult for us to resume work,” he stated.
According to the spokesperson, the government’s failure to pay them over the past nine months has forced them to rely on loans and struggle with hunger while performing their duties as essential service providers.
