No Ghana Airways Aircraft Will be Allowed in US -DoT

According to sources at the United States? Department of Transport (DoT), a decision on Ghana Airways has been taken to the effect that as things stand, no aircraft flown by Ghana Airways pilots and managed by Ghana Airways engineers would be allowed into the US.

DoT sources who spoke to the local radio station, PeaceFM, via phone said the only condition under which they would allow any Ghana Airways connected flight into the US is only when the aircraft was acquired under wet lease terms. Wet lease in aviation is a situation where the lessee airline?s crew is not allowed to fly nor technically maintain the leased aircraft. In this wise, Ghana Airways is not expected to have any technical supervision of any aircraft that flies into the United States.

Sources said the DoT is expecting Government officials and aviation authorities from Ghana to fly into the US for a meeting on the recent decision to suspend Ghanair?s licence to fly to that country.

Ghanair?s licence to fly into the US, the Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR-129) was recently suspended for reasons of expiration and safety.
