I snitched on $3.2m luxury car owner – Ketu South MCE

The customised Mercedes Benz cars are valued at $3.8m. The customised Mercedes Benz cars are valued at $3.8m.

The Municipal Chief Executive of Ketu South, Elliot Agbenorwu, has revealed that he informed the security apparatus about two luxury Mercedes Benz cars parked in his house by one Darlington.

The white Mercedes Benz 300 SL and black Mercedes Benz 190 SL, were allegedly brought into the country illegally.

National Security and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority seized the cars after the MCE blew the whistle on the owner.

Preliminary investigations show that the vehicles were smuggled into the country to avoid a GHS900,000 duty.

Denying ownership of the vehicles though they were retrieved from his residence, Mr Agbenorwu said he currently does not stay in the house where the cars had been parked since it is under renovation.

He said on 6 January, he had reports from friends that the cars were parked in his residence and upon his inquiries, found that the vehicles belonged to a certain Darlington, who had done a similar thing in June 2017, for which he (the MCE) warned against.

A furious Agbenorwu said he subsequently informed the BNI and the police about the incident leading to the seizure of the cars.

“So when they called me that it was the same guy, I got furious and I called the assistant commissioner, Mr Eshun that there is something happening at my residence so he should move in with his men and check the vehicles whether they have genuine papers covering them…I called the BNI, Mr. Banson that he should also move in and check what is happening in my residence.

“I called the Denu Police Commander that there is something happening in my residence so they should move and they moved in and…subsequently they put a detention on the vehicle and the following day the detention was converted to seizure and the vehicles were sent to Accra,” Mr Agbenorwu told Starr News.
