Ghana Airways to add BWI flight

Ghana Airways will increase direct service from BWI to West Africa, Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. has announced.

Ghana Airways currently operates one weekly flight from BWI to Banjul, Gambia, and Accra, Ghana. An additional flight, to be added this summer, is expected to generate an annual economic impact of $16 million for Maryland.

The announcement comes after meetings Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele held earlier this month with Ghanaian government leaders and Ghana Airways officials to discuss air service opportunities between Maryland and Ghana.

Two other flights, likely to be added later this year, are pending negotiations with the Maryland Aviation Administration.

Mr. Steele is leading a delegation of Maryland government, health, education and business leaders on a trade mission to Ghana and South Africa.
