It is very clear that the NDC wants to use Mills death as an excuse to court the favour and support of the party, to win some sympathy to their side. They can do their own but leave gov't out of it. Your obsession with death, funerals and anniversaries is beyond bizarre.

Mills will not be the only leader who died in office in this world, get on with serious matters and stop the circus. This was your diabolical plan that is why you wanted to bury him at the Flagstaff House.

You hijacked the event as a political party one and you expect other parties to join you commemorate a national event like an NDC affair? It doesn't work like that. To tell you the truth I was very disappointed when I read you being quoted as saying that the NPP could have taken a political mileage out of this event. This clearly tells me a lot about your mindset - very skewed towards only your political party and not towards national cohesion. Very sad.

Following Citi FM’s report on the deteriorating state of the tomb of the late President John Evans Atta Mills, Government has commenced some repair work on the tomb at Asomdwee Park.

A visit to the park on Monday by Citi News’ Anass Seidu revealed there were cracks on the tomb and blocks had been used to keep it from falling apart.

In an interview with Citi News, the Chief Executive Officer of the Atta Mills Institute, Koku Anyidoho said a visit to the Asomdwee Park this morning revealed the repair works had already started on the tomb.

He commended Citi News for highlighting the state of the tomb.

He also said government’s speed in addressing the issue had saved the country from potential embarrassment.

“I can confirm on authority that I have been there and I must say that we are pleased with the quick response of government. We saw workers on site. The tombstone was being worked on. It also looks like the lawn itself is being manicured.”

“For us, the positive aspect of the story that Citi FM did yesterday [Monday] is that some attention has been drawn to what was going to come out as an embarrassment to us.”

“If we had waited till March 6 [Independence Day] for people to throng the place only to find that the tombstone is sitting on broken pieces of cement blocks and is looking very horrible with all the cracks. It would have been a more of a bigger disgrace,” he said.

The Asomdwee Park, formerly known as the Geese Park, was transformed in 2012 to serve as the final resting place for the late President, who passed on July 24, 2012.

The body is laid in state for viewing and the biography is read in addition to eulogy , thereafter , the body is sent to the burial ground ( the personal choice of the dead president ). The country has no obligation to celebrate the death annually. There must be a discussion to stop wasting our time on the dead .

Was the government invited by open invitation too? How dare anyone to do that? I have never heard of wreath laying or celebration of the anniversaries of Busia, Liman, Akuffo Addo and others. They should rather spend time to reveal the real cause of the Professor's death. These are issues which should not be swept under the carpet. On the day of the celebration his brother in parliament warned of his intension to exhume the body of his late brother because of improper care of his grave and the site. If within five years Prof Atta Mills grave is breaking apart, then those in charge did some shoddy work and that should rather of major concern to whoever claims to love the man Atta Mills. It's a shame. On the other hand the queen mother is crying for a fitting burial of her family member at Otuam since the family did not approve him being buried at where he was interned. The only son of Prof Atta Mills is very unhappy too. Poor young man he will live with this trauma forever. These pertinent issues are more important than the government doing anything to celebrate what NDC people are doing to cover up their shame.

Those who have learnt the truth about the dead are free from wasteful periodic commemorating of the dead - weekly, 40 days, annually, and so forth. Not to mention the excessive amount of money and resources wasted on funerals.
One thing I personally admire about Islam is the way they bury the dead - quick, cheap, and dignified.
