Minister urges Ghanaians to place premium on vocational education

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Cape Coast North Constituency and Deputy Minister of Education, Mrs. Barbara Asher Ayisi, has underscored the significance of vocational education in the country.

She observed that the developed world greatly rely on vocational education to improve on their economy indicating that Ghana can emulate such examples and improve on the manufacturing industry which will have a greater impact on the economy.

She therefore called for attitudinal change of some Ghanaians towards vocational education and individuals who have acquired such talents but rather urged that they should be provided with the necessary support in terms of logistics in order to improve on the employment situation in Ghana

The Deputy Minister who joined over 300 delegates from 80 countries in Tangshan, China for the International Conference on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), revealed that the 5-day international conference was a follow up to the third International Congress on TVET aimed at bringing the experience gained to bear in her Cape Coast North Entrepreneurial Training special initiative program.

The Technical and Vocational Training (TVET) in China is in concert with her special initiative on Cape Coast North Entrepreneurial Training (CCNET) to offer free skills to the youth.

The CCNET is a joint project of the MP, Cape Coast Technical University and Centre for Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation (CEDI) with the aim of providing hands-on training to equip the youth with skills essential enough to enable them start their own businesses.

So far six hundred people have enrolled for the Cape Coast North Entrepreneurial Training programme which starts on Monday.

Mrs. Asher Ayisi therefore appealed to corporate organisations and individuals to support her initiative. “I will like to appeal to corporate Ghana and individuals to come and partner us as we seek to fight unemployment in the country in order achieve President Nana Addo Dankwa- Akuafo Addo aims of curbing unemployment situation in the nation”, she appealed

Meanwhile, an orientation ceremony has been held at the Cape Coast Technical University for the first batch of One hundred (100) participants to begin the skills training programme which started last Monday.
