It is the failure of Parliament for not ensuring that child protection and benefits system is sorted as a prioirty to rescue the basic rights of these children.

No welfare system in place to ensure children and families get at least some means of allowances to sustain them hence children are forced to go to work and feed their families.

I am inclined to pose some questions given that I am unmoved by the emotional slant of your article and its one-sided bias depicting more opinion than factual analysis.
Should a child not learn to work at some point? If yes, when? What types of jobs should they do then? Should parents not have the right to teach their children the benefits of learning a trade while young?
You see, your article does not even take into account the aspirations and volition of young people. You do realise that Western education has led many to a dead end of joblessness and financial ruin, right? You seem to think that just going to school and not engaging in "child labour" will make everything better.
You even went on to exhibit the typical Ghanaian mentality of thinking that becoming a "doctor, engineer or teacher" is the end all and be all of education. Who is to say that child labour experiences have not imparted valuable life lessons to some young people?
Your article is at best deficient and favours herding children into another problematic situation of public education where they often learn to "chew, pour pass and forget", and then face other problems in life after they cannot earn a decent income.
Sincerely,
Apostle Mawuetornam Dugbazah
Children must learn the value of work and not just be groomed to fit the mould of Western-style education.

I like your comments! As a Western missionary, I have often thought the same. Good, hard work, vocational skills are all a part of a healthy child and society and are different for different countries. However, dangerous situations should be avoided and human rights such as safety, food, sleep, general well being must be a must for all children.

So would you classify the "projects" and household chores that Ghana's boarding schools typically require of young students part of the child labour problem? Just curious.
