A former boss of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Justice Francis Emile Short, has suggested an immediate probe be launched into the circumstances under which some GHS150,000 was paid to parliamentarians.

It has emerged that the Finance Committee under the 6th parliament received money from the National Lottery Authority (NLA) to deliberate on the Lottery Bill.

Mr Short, who is not enthused about the development, told Joy FM on Thursday June 28 that it is “a very serious allegation which has implications for the image and reputation of our august body of parliament”.

He said the committee must be set up to “investigate the matter…and also look at the practice of parliamentarians receiving money for the work that they do".
