Ghanaian International signs record deal, opts to play for Sweden instead of Black Stars

The 21-year old international footballer who was expected to make a decision on whether to play for the Ghana National team or Swedish counterparts has broken a record in Sweden. Kingsley Sarfo, who plays for IK Sirius in Sweden has been involved in a transfer deal.

Malmö FF have signed the youngster on a deal that is set to make the young footballer one of the most expensive players in the football club’s history. Kingsley Sarfo was signed by Malmo FF for a fee of 13 million kroner (19.5 million USD) from IK Sirius.

He is the newest addition to the Malmo FF squad. The transfer fee that was paid by Malmo for the midfielder makes him the third most expensive player in his new club. There was an initial bid of 10 million kroner for the player which was rejected by IK Sirius.

The renewed bid of 13 million kroner was too good to turn down and an agreement was put on the table for the services of the player.

Kingsley Sarfo, during his unveiling at his new club said, Malmö FF had good players he wanted to play with. He added that it was a great club and was hopeful they were going to help him reach higher heights in his football career.

The in-form midfielder has also been approached by the Swedish Football Association giving the youngster an opportunity to play for Swedish National Team The young player has therefore agreed to play for the Swedish National Team instead of playing for Ghana.

Earlier this year, the player was omitted from the 30-Man Black Stars provisional squad that was shortlisted to face USA and Mexico in some friendly matches.

According to Black Stars’ Assistant Coach, Ibrahim Tanko, the player was omitted to allow him make final decisions on a nationality switch issue involving the Football Associations of Ghana and Sweden. He has applied for the nationality switch.

Being a full Ghanaian born to Ghanaian parents, the footballer left the country to play football in Sweden after a short time playing football in Ghana.
