Sam must not allow this one sided ruling to destroy his career.Even if this was true he will not be the first person or only person to have made such a mistake.He should do his homework and get all the names of players past and present who made similar mistakes and how they were treated and find a good lawyer to present that evidence at his appeal.This is excessive and discriminatory.
