The only reason the government is forcing Christians to accept funding for pilgrimages is that the government has been wasting millions of dollars annually by funding Ghanaian Muslim's annual pilgrimage to Mecca.

The sponsorship of the hajj by the Ghana government started with Rawlings in the 1980s. Successive governments have ever since followed the lead.

Ghana is a very impoverished country. Why should the government waste millions of dollars of tax payer's money on private citizens' private religious ceremony? It does not make sense!

If Ghanaian Muslims are sensible, they will call for an end to the government funding of the hajj. But they will not because they love free money. In addition, they are hypocrites because they would be the first to protest vehemently if the government had funded a non-Muslim religious ceremony.

This story also shows that Ghana government officials (past and present) are dishonest to the core. They are just forcing a practice on Christians. I have never heard about obligatory Christian pilgrimage. Pilgrimage To where? The Vatican? Israel?

Point of correction. Government doesn't pay for moslims but individual moslims pay for their pilgrimage to Mecca.
The Political party may decide to pay for some of its members but not but not the entire moslim body.

The idea was started by late Kwame Nkrumah especially in the Brong Ahafo Region which he saw was stronghold of the opposition to his CPP government. When late K.A. Busia launched his Progress Party (PP) in 1969 to wrestle power with Gbedemah's National Alliance of Liberals (NAL) which was offshoot of CPP, had it not been Afrifa who campaigned ruthlessly in the B/A Region, Busia could have lost in his own backyard, because the region boast of Moslem Religious people.

Successive governments have followed suit hence it has become an albatross around governments neck to always find a means to involve in Haj pilgrimage. Government should not involve itself in individuals spiritual enlightenment as it does not have any significant impact on the society be it spiritual or economical. It rather drains the nation's scarce foreign reserves by way of allotting each haj individual hard foreign currency as a travelling allowance.

Its time all these freebies and other unnecessary spending come to an end. Bravo Christian Council. I hope our Moslem Brothers will also follow suit. E&OE.

It is because Satan is right there in Mecca and so they have to be there to stone Satan who has infected Arabs with wickedness and barbarism. Do you also know why Muslims pray facing one particular direction? It is because Allah is a territorial god and not omnipresent as some want us to believe. So you see, Christians don't need to be in a Holy Land to worship Jesus because Jesus is omnipresent and omniscience.
Look, let me ask Ghanaians one question; who is going to pay the $21.0M debt incurred by organizers of last year's Hajj. It is Ghana Government of course. Why are Muslims fond of using lies (Taqqiyya/Kitman) to defend Islam by saying that Ghana government only facilitates pilgrimage to Mecca. Another question is, who facilitates Muslim American pilgrims to Mecca even though they number about 12,000 every year? I know Muslims in Ghana cannot answer this last question because they are mischievous.

The gov't has not said anywhere that it was going to sponsor Christian Pilgrimage. The gov't today does not sponsor any Pilgrimage. It only facilitates the Muslim Pilgrimage, so stop making unnecessary 'noise'.

Do some of you know that even the whole money Ghana possess can't even have an influence on Allah if u refused to give to Muslims to go and observe the prayers?.Even if the govt refused to pay for the pilgrimage, I am telling you Muslims will go there and come no matter the cost involved. Islamic religion is for Allah and Allah gives everything to man. Besides its a call that Allah does to His slaves so if He calls you no matter the cost involved the person will go.I know some of you hates Islam that's why u are kicking against it and no one I swear on this earth can extinct the religion of Allah. Maybe if the govt sponsors them, Allah will have used it as a means to solve the problems in our economy for us. Again let me put it on record that, we are not begging govt to sponsor we the Muslims. Jesus and the Almighty are aware of the economic woes of Ghana and They could intervene at the appropriate time; but Ghana has to play its vital role in achieving economic sustainability.

Ghana has to earn it since economic sustainability does not come on a silver platter. Economic sustainability does not come cheap!

However, I don't think it's the government's responsibility to sponsor a Christian or Muslim pilgrimage. There r a lot of national needs or developments that need to be done by the gov't. Most hospitals in the nation are not equipped with medical supplies or devices. A lot of lives have been lost due to a basic medical need like oxygen. Therefore, if it's true that gov't has been sponsoring Islamic pilgrimage, it should put a stop to that.
